Updike

I was going to write something about the cartoons I've posted but I sit down at the PC to see that John Updike has died. Wish I had something extremely intelligent to say. I just feel that another good has been taken from the world. The darkness closes ever further in.

Doesn't it just? 'Terrorist' was his last, wasn't it? Not a nad way to finish at all. It's odd, because I was in a bookshop yesterday evening and was thinking how I needed to get hold of more of his work. Then I went home and saw the tiniest little mention of it on the Irish news. Fuck.

I haven't read 'Terrorist'. Seem to remember James Wood slating it at a lecture I attended. I think it put me off... Still, my reaction was the same as yours. And only the other day I was looking at his new Eastwick book in the shop.

Actually, i must admit to feeling cheered up by his death. Dead man's shoes, you see - there are promotions in store for up & coming literary hoodlums such as yourself.

Most amusing - your anti-Spam word thing is 'alist' - where you are sure to be soon, mark my words.
